About Us

We are the Office of Superintendent of Insurance

The OSI enforces New Mexico law on insurance matters, including consumer protections, review of insurance forms and rates for accuracy and fairness, and helps New Mexicans address insurance concerns. We oversee and regulate most kinds of insurance in New Mexico and we license the individuals and agencies that sell insurance in the state.

As part of it’s charter, OSI oversees private health and life insurance, auto insurance, business insurance, home insurance, and title insurance, among others. We review premium rates and other plan details to ensure insurance is reliable, the company is financially solvent, and rates are fair and reasonable. We also oversee producers (formerly known as brokers and agents) who sell insurance in New Mexico.

Having problems with insurance? OSI can help. We process complaints, resolve appeals and grievances, and hold hearings. If needed, OSI takes enforcement action against individuals or companies that violate the law. OSI also combats insurance fraud by investigating insurance issues and reporting criminal behavior.

Mission

The mission of the OSI is to provide consumers with convenient access to reliable insurance products that are underwritten by dependable and financially sound companies. The OSI strives to ensure that these companies have a proven history of fair and reasonable rates and are represented by trustworthy and qualified agents. The OSI is committed to consumer protection and to the deterrence and prosecution of insurance fraud.

Vision

The vision of OSI is to become one of the country’s leading insurance regulatory agencies. We will do everything in our power to make sure that New Mexicans are treated with fairness and honestly when it comes to matters of insurance.
